Wednesday Observation

Wednesdays are festal days to Pavaratty. Devotees from various places gather at Pavaratty church for the special prayers (Novena etc.) on the day. They say that special blessings are achieved by taking part in such observations. This observations on Wednesdays started on 21st July 1937, having been piloted by Rev Fr G.F. Choondal. However since 1930s we can notice a grand development getting effected at Pavaratty church

It was in 1937 (21st of July) St. Joseph’s Novena on Wednesdays was started which brought blessings on the devotees of St. Joseph. Rev. Fr. G.F. Choondal initiated this function which brought glory and fame to Pavaratty Shrine. His assistant Fr. Sebastian Karathra also helped him to make the venture successful. The fame of Pavaratty reached all over Kerala during his period. The Christians and the non-Christians, the rich and the poor, from far and near, flocked to the Shrine, especially on Wednesdays.
